Both the PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox versions of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon featured online play, allowing gamers to battle it out against one another over the Internet. However, Midway has announced that the Wii version will not - and they blame Nintendo.
“Obviously we had online on other platforms so it wasn’t going to be a technology challenge for us,” said the game’s producer, Shaun Himmerick, to advancedmn.com. “Nintendo didn’t have their online system ready for us when we would have needed to implement it,” he continued.
Is no online mode the end of the world?
So it looks like Nintendo were holding back on the console’s online development tools for themselves, because Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is released after Nintendo’s own Mario Strikers Charged (available later on this month in Europe and at the beginning of June in North America). However, to alleviate some of the disappointed Wii owners are bound to have suffered, Himerick promised that the top-notch single player mode would make amends:
“That is a big reason we focused on giving the single player experience even more attention to perfect the new controls system, the addition of Endurance mode and an additional Kharacter.”
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is the second Wii title in as many days that has lost its expected online functionality, following on from the news reported by GameDaily yesterday that Electronic Arts’ EA Playground will also lack console-to-console interaction.
Nintendo must’ve really been hogging onto those online development tools, eh?
As anyone who has managed to get their hands on a Nintendo Wii will shamefully admit, one of its most fun features is the Mii Channel, its easy-to-use avatar creation tool.
While that's not news, the phenomenon of celebrity avatars making their way across cyberspace is. People are sharing formulas for making celebrities and Wii console numbers to become friends so they can share avatars. There are several sites dedicated to the celebrity-inspired Miis and even contests to see who's making the best one.
The Google Reader supports now the Wiimote. You can use up/down to scroll up/down, right/left to select next/previous item, 1 button to show subscriptions and 2 button to show links.
When showing subscriptions you can use up/down to select previous/next subscription, right to select current subscription, left to close and -/+ to collapse/expand folder.
One of a wii fan's friend is a manager at a local movie theater, which uses a digital projector. They figured they could one-up the "It burns when I Wii Video" with the equivalent of a 344" television screen.. yes you hear me - three hundred forty four inch! Because the theatre was too big to run long cables, they built their own wireless sensor bar for less than $20! Enjoy the video.. and if your curious on how to do this yourself, read this post's comments.
It's The WiiMix is a conceptual audio project from ROBOTOBOTS (agent b & gustodian) created as a homage to both video game culture and instrumental hip hop. The goal was to produce 3 songs, each of which sampled the music from a different channel on the Nintendo Wii console. From there the music was chopped, looped, distorted, and completely reinterpreted to create a brand new sound. Dozens of new layers were created from scratch and composed from the ground up. The result is a unique blend of the Wii's clean and slick presentation and ROBOTOBOTS' grimy yet refined signature sound. Up tempo, energetic, and willing to risk anything. It's like a b-boy battle on a Power Pad.
By slipping the Wii remote control into the sword and the Nunchuck into the shield, the realism level of this wii game would have been so high it would be like we were actually carrying a weapon.
