Full Internet Channel Now Available for Wii

Posted on 2007-04-12

Search, surf and shop with family and friends, all from the comfort of your living room with the Internet Channel on Wii. Featuring a number of enhancements to improve the user experience as well as a host of added extras, the full version of the Internet Channel powered by Opera is now available for free download across North America.

Fans of the innovative Wii channels already will be familiar with the Internet Channel, which delivers their high-speed Internet access via their television sets. Based on feedback from Wii owners, Nintendo has created a new and enhanced version of the browser featuring improvements to the user experience as well as a performance upgrade.

Users of the trial version will notice the improved usability of the full version. The browser now features a manual zoom, in addition to the automatic mode available in the previous version, allowing more viewing flexibility. When zooming in and out of a page, text is kept crisp and readable at all sizes. The new version of the Internet Channel also features improved scrolling functionality, as well as the collapsible toolbars and multiple on-screen cursors.

As search functions have become an essential part of our everyday Internet experience, the Internet Channel now features a built-in function allowing users to search without having to select a search engine each time. Wii owners are given the choice of either Google or Yahoo! Search as a pre-selected search engine to power their built-in search button. The selection can be changed at any time, or a different search engine can be used by typing in that search engine’s address. Users also will have the ability to easily access Nintendo, Yahoo!, Google and My Opera from pre-loaded bookmarks.

The full version of the Internet Channel is available as a free download through June 30, after which it will cost 500 Wii Points. Once downloaded, the Internet Channel is free for the lifetime of the system.

Nintendo Wii Shortage Comments

Posted on 2007-04-11

"There is a lot going on behind the scenes in terms of working on what we are producing, and the numbers continue to rise, but the product is so very popular that we may see a supply / demand situation last for some time. We are at absolute maximum production and doing everything we can. The number of units that we have been able to produce has far exceeded our hardware production in the past - and the production levels of a lot of our competitors - but demand continues to be really high. People are being really diligent about working with retailers to locate one, but we are cognizant of the fact that a lot of fans are not able to get their hands on one yet. We are asking them to be patient and to know that we are working on this as fast as we can.

There was definitely that (higher price) possibility. There are so many people who are very much liking the system, and while the price that it's at is very much mass market we probably could have folded at a higher price. But I think that it was always Nintendo's intent to make it a product that is appealing to the mass market."

Super Paper Mario Released

Posted on 2007-04-09

The launch of Super Paper Mario for Nintendo Wii system transports players into another dimension. Like a story ripped from the pages of a paperback novel, Mario has the ability to switch between a 2D and 3D perspective. With the motion and pointing abilities of the Wii Remote, this first Mario game for Wii delivers the goods.

At the start of the story, a mysterious villain kidnaps Princess Peach and Bowser, and forces the unlikely couple to get married without any paperwork. Mario, always the hero, sets out to save the day before a rift of energy tears the universe apart.

“This is one of the most remarkable Mario adventures you’ve ever seen,” says George Harrison, Nintendo senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Millions of Wii owners will be happy, because this game appeals to everyone by providing a fresh perspective on gaming.”

Players solve puzzles, perform new actions, learn fresh abilities and beat bosses using the innovative and action-sensitive remote. Players can even navigate through parts of the game as Peach, and of course, Bowser, whose devastating breath burns like lemon juice on a paper cut.

Super Paper Mario, Rated E for Everyone, launches today. For more information about the game, visit www.SuperPaperMario.com

Super Paper Mario Closing Comments by IGN

Posted on 2007-04-08

You should buy this game for a number of reasons. It's a Mario game and for some that will be enough. It's also one part platformer and another part RPG, successfully dabbling in both genres. It controls tightly and uses the Wii remote in a smart manner without stepping into forced territory. The new 2D-to-3D dynamic is built around clever and surprisingly complex puzzles that will challenge and impress you. And it all comes together to make Super Paper Mario a highly enjoyable title, whether you want to call it a platformer, an RPG, or something in-between. You will have fun and the fun will last for a good while, plain and simple.

And with that being said, that doesn't mean that the game is a work of perfection because that isn't true. The writing is well-crafted and humorous, but there is so much to read that it actually interrupts the flow of the game. Meanwhile, the 3D perspectives tend to look barren and boring even as the 2D views showcase stylized and colorful backdrops befitting of a classic Mario game. These gripes keep Super Paper Mario from becoming a truly masterful endeavor, but they don't stop us from recommending it as a must-buy for any Nintendo fan.

Microsoft Says Wii is for Babies

Posted on 2007-03-28

Oh, sweet mud-slingin, how we luv you! It would be way impossible to count how many times company represntatives poked fun at Game Cube, just as it would be a difficult calculating how many times the previous Nintendo President spoke poorly of his hardware competitors. Nowadays, though, publishers rarely speak bad about Nintendo or Wii as both are overwhelming successes.

But Microsoft Xbox's group product manager and Live platform, John Rodman, took a stab at dissing the wii. According to a report by Daily Tech, Rodman insinuated that gamers would out grow Nintendo's wii just as soon as their voices started to change.

"We don't feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing. We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14, they want something else." -Rodman
