Boogie Game Impressions for the Nintendo Wii

Posted on 2007-10-05

This is definitely a weird wii game. A first blush, it’s a combination of Karaoke Revolution/Dance Dance Revolution - fortunately you do not do both at the same time. The Boogie game feels quite generous in what it counts as correct. You do get a free hand mic with the game. Boogie for the Nintendo Wii also feels like you're playing SSX

First, most of the interface (Boogi Wii game menus) feel like it’s borrowed heavily from SSX Blur More closely, while you dance, which is done by swinging the Wii remote to the sides in time with the music, you score more by avoiding repeating a series of moves. Also, as you get a lot of points in a row in Boogie for the Nintendo Wii, you can attempt to active special moves by holding down a button and swinging the remote as indicated. This is more of a wii party game.

The song list for Boogie is ok.. It’s not EBA or Guitar Hero, but I can see how this game is probably better suited to a party environment than as a single player wii game.

Mario Party 8 Review

Posted on 2007-06-06

Gameplay: The Mario Party franchise certainly has grown up. Instead of having the regular board games where you just circled around a massive landscape saving up coins for the 20 coin star space that the first game had, there are a variety of boards as well as playing styles to choose from. Some of these levels are extraordinarily creative, such as my favorite level where you're on a train, and the cars sometimes switch around and stuff, but others still suffer from that same-old, boring original style. In addition to all of the creative levels, the game also provides many characters to choose from. You could practically be any Mario character you wanted to. I personally like Blooper, the squid. I would have liked to see maybe Baby Bowser as a playable character, but I'm fine with the current selection. Mario Party 8 also introduces candy to the game. What is candy? Candy is just items you can use against your opponents. The only thing I don't like about candy is that some of them just feel cheap because they're so powerful. I'm looking at you Vampire Candy. In regards to how chance plays a role in how the game lays out, who cares? Mario Party was originally designed to be an electronic board game that you could play with your friends on your TV. Board games rely a lot on chance, so if anything, chance makes the game more authentic and exciting, but it destroys any chance of having a fun single-player experience. If your friends come to your house often, this is the game for you. Another thing that the game is lacking is online which probably would have sucked anyway because Nintendo blows at online, so I guess it doesn't matter all that much.

Graphics: The graphics in Mario Party 8 are phenomenal. They're quite possibly the best graphics in any Mario game thus far. The water which is in some of the levels looks awesome. An awesome addition to the game is that there is stuff going on in the background of the board. Take the train level for instance. The train is actually moving, so you see mountains and trees whizzing by in the background. The passengers of the train move around and talk to each other. It's just really cool. Also, the characters just look awesome, as do the minigames. They're very sharp, and the colors are really bright.

Sound: Do I have blood coming out of my ears? The music is so terrible it's not even funny. No, it's not funny at all. It's annoying and chirpy. It sucks. The characters only have like 8 different sound effects. Ugh...

Value: This is an awesome multi-player game that will last you a long time, but how long can the fun last with only 6 levels and about 100 mini-games?

Here's a word of advice: wait until the price drops. It's good, but not $50 good.

Need for Speed Carbon Thoughts for Nintendo Wii

Posted on 2007-05-28

Here finally I finall bought Need for Speed Carbon for the Nintendo Wii. Let's compare between this wii game between the other non wii platforms. First you'll get the new scheme of motion sensor of the Wii-mote if you play on Wii. I will explain that this is like you're really driving.. you can control your car left or right by flipping the wii-mote to the left and flipping to right .. that's cool right? The one thing that I want to complain is that the frame rate of this wii game is low at the start race. Graphics in the Wii is good.. EA has done a good job with graphics and control, but unfortunately does not take advantage of the motion sensor for the title screen or choice menu. Need for Speed Carbon for the Nintendo Wii is one racing game you'll need to add to your collection!

Shrek the Third Wii Game Review

Posted on 2007-05-17

While Shrek the Third is a simple game to play, it’s pretty hard to nail it down to a specific game type. Basically you wander around smashing enemies, boxes, crates, and other smashables. The only real objective is to make it to the end of the level. So on its most basic level, Shrek is an action adventure game. One of the better parts of the game is how it is split up between characters. You won’t always be playing as Shrek. You don’t get a choice of who to play as, the storyline dictates who you will be. Each of the characters (Shrek, Puss in Boots, Donkey, and Sleeping Beauty in my game so far) has their own set of moves, even though they all accomplish the same thing. It still makes it fun to have a change of pace from level to level. Each character also has their special attack and finishing moves. Shrek is the strongest of the bunch, and he can defeat enemies in a shorter amount of attacks. Puss in Boots is a lot faster with his attacks, but he needs to do more of them to beat an enemy. While the differences in characters are small, it’s still enough to keep things interesting.

I’d have to say that I was honestly impressed with the graphics in Shrek the Third. After being let down with Spider-Man 3’s visuals, Shrek the Third does an excellent job of looking nice while retaining the look/feel of the source material. All the character models look like the animated versions, even if these are a little lifeless at times. While facial expressions leave something to be desired, animations are great. Just like the GBA version, the Wii version has some great character animations. There are a few animations in the game that actually make me chuckle every time I see them (check out Shrek carrying anything). NPCs and enemies are less detailed, but are more than enough to get the job done. The levels are also pretty good looking. They have a very “Spyro” feel in my opinion. Shrek follows the same style of art design and architecture. As we were playing through I kept making notes on parts of the game that impressed me visually. Now keep in mind that this is a Wii title, so we aren’t talking 360/PS3 levels here. Having said that, Shrek the Third looks better than a majority of the current Wii library.

Controls, while not super innovative, work perfectly fine. Jumping, regular attacks, and blocking is handled by the Wiimote, while special attacks and picking up items is accomplished with the Nunchuck. You’ll be waggling your Wiimote to complete your basic attacks, just like in Twilight Princess. Waggling the Nunchuck will let your character charge up a strong attack. One you stop shaking, your character will unleash their attack. It’s a nice mix of controls that is easy enough for younger players while providing some basic uses for the motion sensing capabilities.

Shrek the Third is enough fun to continue through to the end of the game. Now I don’t expect any of you guys/girls out there to run out and pick this game up. Like I said, it is a “good” game, not great or fantastic. When you consider that it’s a movie based game, it gets a little more credit. It’s a shame that that’s the way I think, but we all know that movie games have set the standards extremely low. Regardless of that, I would still say that the game is good. I think the title is outstanding for younger children that are fans of Shrek, and are looking for a game version to enjoy. If you are a parent looking for the next Wii game for your kids, this should be the one. Trust me, when they are off to bed you should sit down and have a look at the game. I’ll bet that you will find it pretty fun too.

Heatseeker for Wii Review

Posted on 2007-05-15

Well, heatseeker looked promising from the day it was announced, the graphics looked nice, gameplay looked FUN and the variety of planes was nice aswell, after buying this game i am glad all the stuff they said about it in previews ect. wasnt a load of ****.

GRAPHICS

- The aircraft designs are just amazing! they might not look like GoW, but for a Wii game, WOW...

- The detail in the sky is also very nice, nothings better than blowing up enemy fighter jets when the sun is rising :D

- Impact cam can sometimes get in the way, but it makes the game look and feel different, and is a worthy add-on.(you shouldnt crash after a Impact cam view, just keep you cursor centered on screen)

- Explosions are VERY nice, very varied.

- Unfortunatly, the land/island graphics...arent as good, a bit jagged in places and look similar in some levels...

- Ground based troops like tanks and buildings also look rather...rushed

SOUND

- The sound in this game is amazing, it has great sound effects, background music, explosions sound nice aswell.

- In impact cam, the explosions can sound a bit crap if its is FULL slow mo, apart from that its ok, as there isnt many full slo mo impact cam showings.

GAMEPLAY

- The single player game spans over 4 campagins, and lasts about 10-15 hours, on Rookie difficulty level, using the Arcade controls.

- Game can last alot longer as there are bonus objectives on EVERY level, and if you want to unlock the ULTIMATE WEAPON and the top secret jet (you will no it once u see it), you need to finish the game on every difficulty, (theres 3) and this may sound boring, but it isnt, rookie is very limited on combat, but try Pro, you have no mercy lol.

- Unfortunatly there is no multiplayer, this could have been one hell of a game if they had added it in.

OVERALL

With the dodgey land unit anf building graphics, and lack of multiplayer, this still is a great game that should definatly be considered for any Wii owner, im sure that many of you are looking for a game that actually has a story and not all these mini game based games :) (not that i dont luv wario ware and wii sports)

Spider Man 3 Review Could Be Better

Posted on 2007-05-08

Spider Man 3 for the Nintendo Wii looked amazing for Wii graphics; everything in the wii game was fine.. it's not like they can just pull off a PS3/Xbox 360 and have perfect frame rates. The combat could use a little work in Spider Man 3 but increasing the difficulty of the game and trying to mix up the combos will make this wii game a little more enjoyable. Otherwise you will become frustrated doing the same thing over again with the same fascinating graphics. So when you play this wii game, be interactive and not repetitive!

The streets in Spider Man 3 could've been filled up with more objects and details, but the buildings in the wii game were fine. Nintendo obviously wanted to get this game out quick to make money and not really focus on graphics.. but rather on making use of the wii's motion control. Unless you zoomed into every object, you can't really tell the fine details of the graphics for Spider Man 3. Spider Man 3 for the nintendo wii was satisfying, but did not bring me over the edge to make me recommend it. Rent it for yourself and see how you like being Spider Man 3.

Bust a Move Bash Review

Posted on 2007-05-02

Bust a Move Bash is a solid puzzle game for the Wii. This wii game was not designed for the extreme gamer. Bust a Move Bash is for those who simply want to enjoy a good classic wii game. This is the best looking Bust a Move Bash yet and the game play is seamless. The Wii remote point and shoot style is what I expected and is not quirky at all once you learn how it works. The wii game breaks up into four sections... Puzzle, Versus, Endless, & Shooting. I would pick up Bust a Move Bash for Puzzle & Endless alone. There are over 500 puzzles in this wii game and Endless has you playing until you lose. Bust a Move Bash has a high replay value because of its simple fun, beautiful colors, and ease of play. You can pick this up this wii game anytime.

This is a wii game that will not challenge you mentally at all so you'll never get frustrated. Bust a Move Bash delivers simple good old fashion 2D fun with an updated interface and graphics. Bust a Move Bash is exactly what Nintendo had in mind when they designed this next generation console.

Simplicity plus Ease plus Color Rich Settings equals an addictive & really fun puzzler wii game, no doubt about it.

Prince of Persia Rival Swords Just like PSP

Posted on 2007-04-18

I went to my bro’s house and brought Prince of Persia Rival Swords for the Nintendo Wii. I don’t have a Wii right now but I’ll be having one soon, I hope. Prince of Persia Rival Swords is very similar to the PSP version. The graphics, the intro, the gameplay, almost everything is the same with the Wii version. The only difference is the controls. I love the controls of Prince of Persia Rival Swords on the Wii and it really is addicting. I tried playing through the 5 chapters of the game and it’s really a classic. I mean it’s easier to kill an enemy using the Wiimote and the nunchuck coz you get to swing and slash the controllers on air. Better check out Prince of Persia Rival Swords website to see how it works.

By the way, I haven’t beaten the game yet on the PSP but I’m on the last level already. I think I’m gonna write a game guide or walkthrough about it after I’m done with the game.

I highly recommend Super Paper Mario to gamers of all ages

Posted on 2007-04-10

I highly recommend Super Paper Mario for the nintendo wii to gamers of all ages. There is a bit of reading involved in Super Paper Mario, but it’s nothing too heavy that younger gamers can’t handle. There is quite a bit of puzzle solving scattered throughout the wii game that may stump some wii gamers, but for the most part the wii game isn’t overly difficult. Super Paper Mario is loaded with secret areas, items, and plenty of collectible cards to collect as well as recipes to discover. There’s even a challenging dungeon that has 100 levels for the gamers that need to complete everything. The only thing keeping Super Paper Mario from being perfect is that the wii game begins to drag a bit midway through. The later levels didn’t excite me near as much as the first half, and some of the puzzle ideas were weak and seemed to serve only to drag out the levels. Super Paper Mario should take most wii gamers well over 15 hours to complete, and much longer if you want to try and find all of the hidden items. This is one game where I constantly wanted to uncover the secrets just because of how clever so many of them were. If you own a Wii, don’t pass up this highly entertaining game. If you don’t yet own a Wii, Super Paper Mario is just one more high caliber title waiting for you when you do.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 review

Posted on 2007-03-27

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is a wii game that must be mastered and thats just not going to happen straight out of the box. You won't enjoy it until you get better at it.. and when you do.. you're in for a treat!

The graphics in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 are double bogey compared to other golf games I have played for other systems. They definitely could have done better with the graphics in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for the Nintendo Wii. But that doesn't matter too much because the gameplay is amazing!

The most important part of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for is the controls. It's not perfect like swinging a golf club, but it's pretty darn good! Swinging the wii remoe controller in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is a lot more fun than pressing buttons to putt holes! At first it's hard to judge your shots, but when you get used to it, you'll find yourself becoming more of a Tiger Woods for this wii game!

To conclude, I really like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. It is fun and is a must have if you like golf. You love golf? Go pick up Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. If not I would suggest renting it to see if the controls are to your liking.
